Cephalosporin Antibiotic agent

Indications

INDICATIONS AND USAGE To reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria and maintain the effectiveness of cefotetan and other antibacterial drugs

cefotetan should be used only to treat or prevent infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria. When culture and susceptibility information are available

they should be considered in selecting or modifying antibacterial therapy. In the absence of such data

local epidemiology and susceptibility patterns may contribute to the empiric selection of therapy. Treatment Cefotetan for Injection

USP is indicated for the therapeutic treatment of the following infections when caused by susceptible strains of the designated organisms: Urinary Tract Infections caused by E. coli

Klebsiella spp (including K. pneumoniae )

FDA Warnings

WARNINGS BEFORE THERAPY WITH CEFOTETAN IS INSTITUTED, CAREFUL INQUIRY SHOULD BE MADE TO DETERMINE WHETHER THE PATIENT HAS HAD PREVIOUS HYPERSENSITIVITY REACTIONS TO CEFOTETAN, CEPHALOSPORINS, PENICILLINS, OR OTHER DRUGS
SERIOUS ACUTE HYPERSENSITIVITY REACTIONS MAY REQUIRE TREATMENT WITH EPINEPHRINE AND OTHER EMERGENCY MEASURES, INCLUDING OXYGEN, INTRAVENOUS FLUIDS, INTRAVENOUS ANTIHISTAMINES, CORTICOSTEROIDS, PRESSOR AMINES, AND AIRWAY MANAGEMENT, AS CLINICALLY INDICATED
SEVERE CASES OF HEMOLYTIC ANEMIA, INCLUDING FATALITIES, HAVE BEEN REPORTED IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE ADMINISTRATION OF CEFOTETAN
THERE APPEARS TO BE AN INCREASED RISK OF DEVELOPING HEMOLYTIC ANEMIA ON CEFOTETAN RELATIVE TO OTHER CEPHALOSPORINS OF AT LEAST 3 FOLD

I had an emergency laparoscopic appendectomy 9 days ago for appendicitis. The surgery went well, I came home almost immediately after. I take lexapro, Wellbutrin and adderall for ADHD, depression and anxiety. I’ve been on them for years and they’ve worked well. At least they did before the surgery.
