What is the reasoning behind giving metolazone 30 minutes before furosemide? Is it due to their respective onsets of action?
Patient on KCl 20mEq QD. Also on metolazone 5mg and bumex 1mg. Has history of hypokalemia in last 2 weeks but K came back today at 5.4. Envarsus daily is being increased from 6 to 7mg. I said to DC KCL supplement, instruct patient to decrease dietary K and recheck labs Thurs. Patient is outpatient.
Has anyone encountered a patient being told to chew metolazone? Is there a reasoning behind it? I can’t find anything that supports it.
