Patient came into the pharmacy (24 hours, I’m overnight) with a rash, asking what to use Urgent care gave them some ketoconazole, but the rash is spreading. Went through the whole did you change detergents, soaps etc, nothing changed. Brought up that they started Wellbutrin 3 weeks ago. Bingo, SJS.
Today I had the following gems: - “I don’t understand why you can’t just give it to me. Ketoconazole 2% shampoo is harmless! Why do I need a prescription when it’s not much more than the 1% OTC! If I applied 1% in the morning and 1% in the evening….is that not the same thing as 2%?” - a patient w
This post is sponsored by me opening up ketoconazole 2% shampoo to find that its brightly colored orange, at least the manufacturer we carry is. Anyone else have any interesting stories?
So the other day, we got a script with the directions along the lines of “take 1 tablet by mouth, wait two hours, get sweaty, then take 1 tablet.” We called the office to verify it, and they acted like we were the morons for calling about it. Does anyone have any idea what the purpose of this is? L
I was a little confused by a question that asked if I would make ketoconazole (powder) in ointment or paste. The quickest reasoning I had was to make it in paste because this formulation contains more powder (about 20 \~ 25%) but ketoconazole is usually sold in cream. Help?*📷*
Does anyone know if it’s safe to use ketoconazole cream if the patient has an allergy to fluconazole? Or if they have a systemic allergy to flagyl but safe to use vandazole? Can’t really find anything out there and don’t really recall anything from class. Thanks in advance

I am working as a retail Pharmacist for the mean time just to get familiar with patients and how things are practically, while i scout for Internship centers which isn't easy as there are not enough. After reading posts
I'll start. Metronidazole and some formulations of ciclosporin as they sometimes contain ethanol as part of manufacturing process.
I’ll start. “Hairy” tongue with metronidazole
For me, I like to let patients know some metronidazole tastes absolutely disgusting and to limit the amount of contact it has with your tongue. Edit: sorry for the typo in the header, I can't fix it.
The IDSA/SHEA guidelines for C. diff infection is finally updated. Metronidazole is no longer recommend for mild cases: https://academic.oup.com/cid/advance-article/doi/10.1093/cid/cix1085/4855916#.WoUYufzsWpk.twitter ...whaaaaaat?!
YHey guys its come to my attention that metronidazoles interaction with alcohol is still a controversial topic, depsite recent literature discrediting old counseling points. How do you guys feel about this? The CDC has a statement out saying its okay to take alcohol while on metronidazole and even d

Our Antimucrobial teacher was discussing Metronidazole and how it's good for C. Diff colitis. Then it occurs to him that the CDC recommends metronidazole for CDC Gave himself a chuckle

Both KETOCONAZOLE and METRONIDAZOLE belong to the Antifungal class. While they share a similar mechanism of action, differences in pharmacokinetics, dosing, and side effect profiles may make one more suitable than the other for individual patients. KETOCONAZOLE is administered via Topical, whereas METRONIDAZOLE uses Oral. Route of administration can affect onset of action and patient adherence.
METRONIDAZOLE carries 1 FDA warning. Patients should discuss all warnings and contraindications with their healthcare provider before starting or switching medications..
